While Bogaziçi Üniversitesi may appear to be a newcomer to the community of Turkish universities, it has as its roots the long history of Robert College, which was the first American College to be established outside the boundaries of the United States. With the transfer of the site to the Turkish government, Bogaziçi Üniversitesi became the direct heir to not only the excellent facilities of Robert College but also to its distinguished academic tradition.
All classes, except Turkish language, will be taught in English. A member of the faculty in which the student has been accepted will serve as his or her advisor.
Bogaziçi has a wide variety of student clubs and extracurricular sports activities on campus. International students are encouraged to join these organizations to meet with their peers.
For entertainment, the university boasts two movie theaters and classical music concerts every Wednesday. The university hosts three major festivals every spring: the Music Festival (also held during the fall), the Dance Festival and the Sports Festival.
The Office of International Relations offers support to international students applying to Bogaziçi.
Bogaziçi Üniversitesi, serving 9,160 students, has four facilities, six institutes, the school of Foreign Languages, the school of Applied Disciplines and the school of Advanced Vocational Studies. Many of the university’s buildings are located on its South Campus, with the Bosphorus and the historical castle of Rumelihisar as its boundary to the east. The North Campus and the Hisar Campus contain the newer additions to the university facilities. A fourth campus, on the Asiatic side of the Bosphorus, houses the historic Kandilli Observatory which is the center of a nationwide network of seismic stations and a prominent research center of the University. The fifth campus, the Kilyos (Saritepe) Campus, is situated on the shores of the Black Sea 20 km (12.4 miles) to the northwest of both the South and North campuses.
Bogaziçi Üniversitesi affiliated housing is in the
Superdorm. The Superdorm is very close to the campus, shops, and restaurants near Bogaziçi. Students should apply as early as possible as placements are made on a “first come, first served” basis. The Bogaziçi International Office will NOT send out information regarding on-campus housing. It is the responsibility of the student to work with the Superdorm or arrange housing on their own.
