BU is Australia’s most modern, purposeful-built university campus. Its enrollment hovers around 2,000 students. All facilities are within easy walking distance and include food outlets, a bookstore, bank, post office, tavern, computer shop, and medical center as well as state-of-the-art classrooms, libraries and student accommodations.

Classes will be taught by BU faculty members. The university has trainer counselors available all year round to assist with academic and personal matters. The Study Abroad & Exchange Office will support you during your stay.

There’s always something happening somewhere on campus. Free concerts, crazy fundraisers, lakeside barbeques, community campaigns, and the weekly Res Wars between resident students. On a more studious note, Bond also regularly hosts guest lectures and presentations by high profile guest speakers.

Membership in the University Sports Centre is included in the Student Activity Fee, giving students access to exercise equipment, classes, and a spa, sauna, and pool.

The original inhabitants of Australia are the native Aboriginals that arrived to the island country around 400,000 years ago. It wasn’t until the 17th century that Dutch Explorers found this land and claimed it for Great Britain. This land was founded as a penal colony for criminals who could not be held in Great Britain because of prison overcrowding. The native Aboriginals and the new settlers faced my oppositions, especially the destruction of the Aboriginal culture through the conversion to Christianity. The numbers of the Aboriginal people began to drop steadily as more and more settlers landed on the shores of Australia, looking for mainly gold. During the 1960’s, the Aboriginal people were finally able to claim citizenship underneath Australian law, and women gained the right to vote in 1896, the first country to do so. In present day Australia, the culture of the Aboriginal people is still thriving today, and the culture divides between the English and the Natives have become permeable as time has come.

With its famous surf beaches, national parks and mountain ranges, the Gold Coast is a popular destination for visitors worldwide. The area has a near perfect sub-tropical climate, with mild winters and warm summers. The easy accessibility of public transportation makes the Gold Coast a convenient base for sightseeing and travel to other parts of Australia.
 

Accommodation

Students will choose between single rooms in the Hall of Residence and single or twin-share rooms in the Towers. Each single room in the Hall of Residence includes a telephone, desk and chair, single bed, lounge chair, wardrobe, bookshelves, and bedside drawers. Bathroom and other facilities shared. The Tower rooms include a telephone, air conditioning, desk and chair, single bed, lounge chair, wardrobe, bookshelves and bedside drawers, shower and toilet.

 

Grades and Credits

A full course load at Bond University is 40 credits per semester and 80 credits for the academic year. If you take a full course load at Bond University, you will receive a full course load at Washington College (16 credits/semester; 32 credits/academic year). If you take less than the full course load you will NOT receive a full course load at Washington College.
