University Overview


The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) is a highly prestigious world-renowned academic institution that has formed outstanding professionals for more than eighty years. Founded in 1917, the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú is the oldest-established private higher education institution in Peru.

Located on a 43-hectare campus and with a student population of more than 17,000 the University’s teachers, students and graduates are dedicated to the achievement of the highest standards in research and academic work.


Program Overview


Washington College students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the academic life of one of Peru’s top universities.  Students take coursework in Spanish alongside other Peruvian and International students.  PUCP has a number of centers and institutes which focus on music (including ethnomusicology), dance, fine arts, languages and literature, archaeology, and theater.  Their International Office works closely with all students attending PUCP for a semester or year, and provides an orientation.

Students attending PUCP are encouraged to get involved on and off campus!  Past students have joined their club soccer team, volunteered, and gone on student organized excursions to various sites around Lima. 


Location


Situated on the central West coast of South America, Peru offers an immense variety of landscapes and climates, as a result of the peculiarities of its geographical location. The City of Lima, founded in 1535, is the most important city and capital of Peru. Located in the central coastal region, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Lima is home to approximately 8 million people. Lima is the cultural center of Peru and offers entertainment for young people in the form of theaters, cinemas, cafes, bars and discotheques, which are to be found especially in Miraflores and Barranco, the city’s two foremost cultural districts.
 

Accommodation


Study abroad participants live with Peruvian families which is arranged through the PUCP International Office. The host family experience ensures that participants are able to practice Spanish and observe the day-to-day culture of Peru.

A full course load at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú is 15 credits per semester and 30 credits for the academic year. If you take a full course load at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, you will receive a full course load at Washington College (16 credits/semester; 32 credits/academic year). If you take less than the full course load you will NOT receive a full course load at Washington College.
